Hi, I'm David.
I've spent more than 25 years in IT, at companies from small startups to large enterprises. A lot of that job is work nobody sees: the iPad outside the conference room, the pallet of laptops that just showed up, the MacBook someone found in a cabinet and nobody can account for.
Why I built them
Every one of those jobs has a vendor. Each comes with a sales call, a per-device license, a dashboard nobody asked for and a renewal every year. A sign that tells you whether a room is free can cost hundreds of dollars a year, per door. Small offices either pay it or go without. That irked me.
Bored Room came first. I wanted a room sign an office admin could set up in minutes, that an IT team could still push through MDM, and that cost less than a coffee.
Bored Scanner came from a pallet of computers. One photo of the box label instead of a barcode wand, a laptop and a spreadsheet. Then assign, look up and retire from the same phone.
Bored Package and Bored Guest are next, for the front desk: whose box is this, and who's in the lobby.
The rules every app follows
- One job each. If a small office won't notice a feature, it doesn't get built.
- 99¢, once. No subscription, no tiers, no upsell.
- No backend. Your data stays in systems you already own: Google Workspace, Snipe-IT, your own spreadsheet. There's not much to security-review.
- Nothing collected. No accounts with us, no analytics, no tracking.
- Simple for an office admin, ready for IT. Set it up by hand, or push it with Apple Configurator or your MDM. The keys are on the support pages.
Why so cheap?
These apps aren't a business that has to grow into something. They're a point: simple software shouldn't cost $500 a year per device. There's no server to run, so there's nothing to charge you every month for. 99¢ keeps them on the App Store.
How they're made
I design and test each one myself, on real iPads and iPhones, with some help from AI tools along the way.
The company
Bored Software is a product line of BACS Tech, Inc., my IT consulting company. Questions, setup help, or a job that irks you too and deserves a boring app: hello@bacstech.io.
